TrailRax Roof Rack: The Ultimate Bronco Raptor Setup

When we first got our Bronco Raptor, one of the first things we installed was the TrailRax Modular Roof Rack. This setup was crucial in planning our lighting and camping gear placement. With its lightweight aluminum design, modular adaptability, and ability to keep our roof panels removable, it quickly became a must-have for our overlanding adventures.

Why TrailRax?

TrailRax sets itself apart with its patented Pak Rax system, allowing side-mounted gear like our 4-gallon Rotopax, which is critical for long-distance trips in the fuel-hungry Bronco Raptor. The aluminum construction keeps weight down while maintaining strength, and the ability to mount various accessories makes it incredibly versatile.

Our Build & Mounting Choices

  • 40" Cutout Wind Deflector – We opted for the 40" cutout to allow space for mounting our MaxTrax boards on top.

  • Lighting Setup – We mounted our lights using Pro6 mounts we originally made for our Pro6 bar on our truck. These work great for racks that use the 80/20 2"x1" load bars.

  • Universal Mounting Plate – Mounted on the side Pak Rax, this allows us to attach extra accessories.

  • Tent Mounting – Our rooftop tent is secured using the HD Tent Mount with 1.5" Rise. This distributes the load across multiple crossbars, reducing stress on the roof rack and increasing stability.

  • Billet Reinforcement Brace – We added the billet reinforcement brace to reduce side-to-side movement when carrying heavy loads over rough terrain.

  • Awning Setup – Our Roam 270 Awning is mounted on the TrailRax 270 Mount, providing excellent shade and protection.

  • Additional Support Brackets – We used a set of modular roof rack 90 brackets for extra mounting support.

  • Grab Handles – For easier access, we installed grab handles around the rack and rooftop tent, making it safer and more convenient to climb up when setting up or packing down.

Installation & Performance

TrailRax provides clear instructions and step-by-step video guides, making the installation process seamless. The best part? Even with the rack installed, we can still remove the front and middle roof panels for an open-air experience—something we weren’t willing to sacrifice.

Final Thoughts

There’s not much we’d change about the TrailRax system. The only thing that would make it even better is more mounts for additional accessories. This setup has been solid, lightweight, and incredibly functional for everything from high-speed desert runs to long overlanding trips. If you’re looking for a modular, durable, and well-designed roof rack for your Bronco, TrailRax is the way to go!
