Sunflare Xplor Solar Panels: Four Years of Reliable Overland Power

When it comes to overland travel, power is everything. Whether it’s keeping a fridge running, charging camera gear, or ensuring communication devices stay online, a reliable solar setup can make or break a trip. After over four years of real-world testing, we can confidently say that the Sunflare Xplor 180W Expedition Panel is one of the most durable and efficient options out there.

Our Setup: 180W Expedition Panel Mounted on the Bronco Raptor

We originally installed the Sunflare Xplor 180W panel on our truck, but as our setup evolved, we relocated it to our Roam rooftop tent on the Bronco Raptor. Using VHB tape, we mounted it directly to the tent’s surface, keeping it low-profile, lightweight, and completely out of the way.

Unlike traditional glass solar panels, the Sunflare Xplor series is built with flexible CIGS solar cells, which means no risk of cracking or shattering on rough trails. The lightweight design also prevents unnecessary strain on our tent’s structure, making it a great option for overland rigs with limited roof load capacity.

Real-World Performance: 4+ Years of Constant Use

For the past four years, this panel has been running daily to keep our 200Ah Antigravity deep cycle battery charged, primarily powering our fridge 24/7.

We’ve tested it on everything from quick weekend escapes to extended 1-2 week trips, and it’s consistently kept our power topped off. Even in partial shade or overcast conditions, the panel continues to provide a reliable charge, reducing our reliance on alternator charging or external power sources.

Built for Overland Abuse

One of our biggest concerns when running solar on an off-road vehicle was durability—could it handle extreme conditions?

So far, this panel has survived:
Mud, rain, and dust from off-road trails
Tree limbs scraping across the surface in tight forested trails
Extreme heat & cold in desert and mountain environments
Us literally walking on it while shooting photos from the roof

It’s one thing to have a panel perform well in controlled conditions, but after years of exposure and abuse, this one has proven its toughness.

Why We Love Sunflare Xplor (And Their Other Products)

Sunflare doesn’t just offer the 180W Expedition Panel—they’ve expanded their lineup to fit different overland, off-road, and RV setups. Some of the products we’re excited about for future builds include:

🔹 BLOX Solar Panels – Modular and compact solar solutions, perfect for custom layouts or smaller power needs.

🔹 FX Series Portable Panels – Foldable, plug-and-play solar panels that are great for basecamps or vehicle-independent power setups.

🔹 Flex SI Panels – A more affordable solar option that still offers Sunflare’s quality and durability.

With multiple new builds in the pipeline, we know Sunflare products will be a go-to for keeping our rigs powered in the most remote locations.

Final Thoughts: Is the Sunflare Xplor 180W Expedition Panel Worth It?

If you’re looking for a lightweight, durable, and reliable solar solution for overlanding, the Sunflare Xplor 180W Expedition Panel is absolutely worth considering. It’s completely changed the way we manage power on the road, reducing battery anxiety and letting us stay off-grid longer.

Paired with our Victron MPPT 75/15 solar charger, it has become an essential part of our setup—one we wouldn’t overland without.

If you’re building out your off-road, camper, or expedition rig, definitely check out Sunflare Xplor’s full lineup and find the best fit for your power needs!
