Enhancing Our Overland Adventures with Roam Adventure Co.
As overlanders, Sarah and I are constantly looking for gear that not only stands up to the harsh conditions of the trail but also makes our outdoor adventures more comfortable. That’s why we’ve turned to Roam Adventure Co. for some of our essential overlanding gear. From rooftop tents to rugged storage solutions, Roam has quickly become a staple in our setup. Here’s a look at the Roam products we’ve integrated into our Bronco Raptor and Chevrolet Colorado, helping us roam further, explore deeper, and live adventurously.
1. The Desperado Hardshell Rooftop Tent for Our Bronco Raptor
One of our largest needs is a place to rest our heads, and the Desperado Hardshell Rooftop Tent has been largely underrated. We've spent at least 100 nights in this tent over the past two years, camping in both scorching summer heat and freezing snow.
We love how the front of the tent lifts to provide more foot space without increasing the overall tent length. It also features windows on the sides, front, and rear for maximum airflow. The tent is easily configurable with a rainfly for rain, snow, or shade in the sun, and the rainfly can be unzipped when it's windy or unnecessary. We also appreciate the full blackout design, which allows for uninterrupted sleep—even when camp neighbors have flashlights or when we need a daytime nap.
2. The Landing Pad and Rugged Storage Solutions
We love the Landing Mat. It’s super easy to clean, waterproof, and typically stored in our rear storage area or inside a Rugged Case. We leave essentials like blankets, a Hest mattress, and heated blankets inside the tent while on the go.
We've also mounted mountain bikes and snowboards/skis on the rooftop tent rails. On our truck, we use 83L Rugged Cases for extra gear or tools needed for long hauls. The locking mounts ensure they stay secure during travel but can be quickly removed after a trip. Other essentials, like the ARC 270 Awning and Shower Room, are roof-mounted and can be deployed in seconds.
3. Setting Up Camp for Maximum Efficiency
The moment we arrive at camp, we prioritize finding a level spot for the rooftop tent. If possible, we point the vehicle east so our solar panels start charging first thing in the morning. After setting up the tent, we move any necessary gear inside before focusing on dinner and the campfire. This approach lets us enjoy the evening without needing to organize the tent when we’re ready to sleep.
4. Unforgettable Overlanding Campsites
One of our favorite campsites with the Bronco and rooftop tent setup was near a meadow, where we woke up to horses grazing in the field. We’ve also camped in San Felipe and on a 900-ft cliff overlooking Lake Powell—both of which we plan to revisit with this setup.
5. The Importance of Comfort and Lighting
Having essentials like blankets set up in advance and good lighting at night makes a world of difference. The LED Track Lights help illuminate our campsite for cooking, reading, and relaxing. After long days on the trail, a cozy, well-lit space ensures we get the rest we need for the next day's adventure.
We’re huge fans of Roam Adventure Co. and how their products have helped elevate our overlanding experience. From the comfort and convenience of the Desperado Hardshell Rooftop Tent to the rugged durability of their storage solutions, Roam has truly become a key part of our setup. Whether you’re new to overlanding or a seasoned explorer like us, we highly recommend checking out their collection. Every piece of gear we’ve used has stood up to the test, and we look forward to continuing our adventures with their products by our side.
